Playing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star in Freano — the notes fall and the key to press lights up

Miss a note? The song waits for you.

Nothing runs away from you. The piece stops until you press the right key. Play at 50, 75 or 100% speed, with the metronome on if you like.

Playing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star in Freano — the notes fall and the key to press lights up

Practise only what you missed

Freano collects the notes you missed, plus the ones around them, and builds a short exercise on the spot. The 35 lessons run from your first three notes to five fingers, black keys and whole pieces. It also counts how many minutes you played today and how many days in a row.
Both hands — the right hand falls in blue, the left hand in purple

Right hand, left hand, then both

Learn one hand at a time, then put them together. We write the left-hand parts ourselves, so they are free to use. With both hands, you have to press both keys before the piece moves on. Every piece is public domain — folk songs, nursery rhymes and old classical music.

Scales, arpeggios, chord progressions and finger patterns — in every key.

You start reading music too

The note you are playing moves along the staff. Add the left hand and a bass clef appears, so you read a grand staff.

A lesson screen — the note to play is shown on the staff and the key lights up below

Even better if you own a piano

Microphone — put your phone next to the piano and Freano hears what you play. MIDI keyboard — connect over USB or Bluetooth and play straight into the app. Touch — no instrument at all? The on-screen keyboard is enough to start.

Questions people ask

Is it really all free?

Yes. No locked songs, no subscription, no ads. There is nothing to pay for anywhere in the app.

Do I need a piano?

No. All 35 lessons and 22 pieces work on the on-screen keyboard. If you get a piano later, connect it by microphone or MIDI.

Do I need an account or internet?

Neither. The sound and the scoring run on your phone, and your practice history stays there.

What about the music rights?

Every piece is in the public domain. The left-hand parts and the drills are generated by rules we wrote ourselves.
